Review: Tula Preschool – Signature Girasol Half Wrap Conversion
A preschool Tula has been on a lot of people’s wishlists in the last few years and finally, Tula has answered their calls! This week a very exciting package landed on my doorstep (socially distanced of course) and I was VERY keen to get it opened and tried on!
This Tula is BEAUTIFUL. It is a half wrap conversion (the inside of the panel and the underside of the straps and waist is canvas, the rest is wrap fabric) from a stunning Girasol Summit Azul Pacifico wrap. The colours are quite frankly stunning and a huge reason I couldn’t wait to try it!
My regularly carried child is a BIG 5 year old – he’s the same size as his 7 year old brother and quite a lot broader and heavier. He has a variety of needs which mean carrying is still a very important tool in our lives and I carry almost every day in normal circumstances and every time we go out together right now.
I am pretty short too, and that makes preschool sized buckles challenging for me because I can’t get the waistband low enough to have enough back available to carry a tall child (you can read a bit more about the physics of back carrying here)! We manage by using carriers with very tall panels so that I can utilise that bit of extra length. This meant I was a little worried that even a preschool Tula would be too small for us to carry comfortably.
However, I was (happily!) very pleasantly suprised. Whilst I would prefer that the panel was a little longer, this still easily came up to his armpits and was only just a touch off knee to knee (he wears age 6 or 7 clothing usually). I would estimate that this carrier best suited children in at least age 4-5 clothing but it will fit much larger children as well.
Everything else was to the high standards of Tula. The padding is comfy, the straps seem to find the right balance between width and depth of padding and it was easy to tighten and adjust. It did help that I am very familiar with Tula, our much loved Toddler having been a staple of my carrying journey. We did two hour long walks this week using the carrier and both myself and my partner tried it, and found it comfy.
In comparison to the existing Tula range, the preschool carrier measures 20.5 inches wide by 19.8 inches tall – that is 3 inches wider and 1.3 inches taller than the Toddler and 5 inches wider and 4.6 inches taller than the Baby.
I also compared it to our most frequently used carrier the Easy Feel Preschool. The Easy Feel is 3.5 inches wider at 24 inches and 1.5 inches taller, however the shaping on the two panels makes this less obvious when comparing by eye.
I can see the Preschool Tula being extremely popular with families with older carried children. Tula have brought all of their familiarity with making amazing carriers to the fore here and created a great addition to the preschool carrier options on the market. If you love Tula, you will love this.
If you’d like to try the Preschool Tula yourself, it is available to hire now in our hire portal! They will be available to buy in the UK from August 2020.
