We get the pleasure of trying a lot of different wraps and carriers here at It’s A Sling Thing and sometimes it’s something really special. This month we have been visited by the Sling School stretchy wraps!
We both love stretchy wraps, there is something really lovely about using one with big and small kids alike. Stretchy wraps are soft and snuggly and they mould around both the baby and the wearer in a really fantastic feeling way.
About the wrap
We were sent two of the Sling School stretchy wraps, one the purple Blackcurrant Drop and one the dusky pink tester which is currently unnamed. Each of the colours of the Sling School stretchy wraps have been named after different sweet treats so we look forward to seeing what this one is named (Angel Delight I think!). Sling School stretchy wraps come in two lengths as standard, 4m and 5m. A vinyl middle marker of the Sling School logo is used – which you can get in either white or rainbow versions! The middle marker is easy to see and also easy to find by touch. Sling School stretchy wraps are two way stretchy wraps meaning they stretch along both the length and the width.
What we thought
We think the Sling School stretchy wraps are super soft but feel very strong and elastic. They wrap around beautifully and the soft rolling edges mean you can tell which side and edge of the wrap you are working with. Giving a choice of lengths means that people can be less overwhelmed by the length of the fabric when tying.
Our first test with the wraps was just to throw them on one morning and put our own children in them. As you’ve seen from our other photos our children are much older and well beyond the generally accepted ‘limit’ for using a stretchy wrap but sometimes you can tell so much about the fabric using it with big kids! Our models in these photos are 18 months old, 3 years old and 4.5 years old and all roughly similar weights between 16 and 18kg.
For a stretchy on the thinner side we were both surprised about how supported our large children felt in these wraps. The children snuggled in tight, the wrap supporting knee to knee and all the way to the back of the neck. The fabric was easy to move and the elasticity of the wraps meant they were well supported even front carrying at this weight!
We’ve since tried the wraps in a variety of different carries and with different age babies and they have been really beautiful to use. They have an almost perfect amount of stretch to be able to get a supportive carry even when wrapping a bit sloppily! Whilst stretchy wraps don’t make up a large part of our selection here at It’s A Sling Thing we look forward to using them with parents at our local sling libraries.
