Mums Enterprise Roadshow – Em’s Experience
Last October I took a gamble on heading to a free show in Birmingham called Mums Enterprise. I had no idea what to expect, but I knew the roadshow was aimed at mums looking for flexible work or who were running their own businesses.
I LOVED the day at the roadshow. Mums Enterprise was well laid out, with a great lineup of speakers and stalls. People wanted to talk and showed huge amounts of interest in what I was doing, and I came away with a whole host of contacts to support our business.
A couple of months down the line I noticed Mums Enterprise were organising more shows for 2018, in Manchester and London. I took a gamble again and contacted the organisers, Lindsay and Lucy, and asked if they were interested in having a buggy drop and sling hire service for the Manchester event! And happily they were thrilled to have us.
It’s very difficult to gauge how popular sling hires will be at an event like this. Whilst Mums Enterprise is geared up to having families there with their children, not everyone will have kids, and not everyone will be interested in slings. I’ve run a few smaller versions of buggy parks and sling hire previously but nothing on the scale of Mums Enterprise!
The Event itself!
The night before the event I headed up the M6 to Bolton to stay overnight with Jenni in Bolton and pack up all the slings for the next day. Bright and early on the day we were up, packed up almost all the buckle carriers in the library and headed over to EventCity in Manchester.
When we arrived at EventCity it really dawned on us how large the event was going to be, as we walked into the huge hall! We were really impressed with the work the Mums Enterprise team had done to layout the space and decorate it, particularly loving our Free Sling Hire sign!
We quickly got set up in our space near the main doors and started to have a quick look around before the doors opened! Being there early meant we could take advantage of a quick zoom around to talk to some of the other stalls. By 10am we were excited and ready to see the public!
Fitting Slings Galore!
The doors to the Manchester Mums Enterprise Roadshow opened at 10am with a huge rush of people! We were immediately busy, handing out leaflets, talking to families and hiring out slings!
We didn’t stop again til around 1pm when we got a moment to grab some food, but we spoke to and helped a steady stream of people until around 3pm. Our slings helped mums explore the show and listen to workshops, they helped overwhelmed toddlers have a sleep, they helped people navigate crowds without a buggy. We fitted slings for newborns, toddlers and even preschoolers!
Jenni and I LOVED it. We loved speaking to so many parents face to face and sharing what we know about slings! We came away at the end of the day exhausted but completely enthused and excited about Mums Enterprise!
Both myself and Jenni are really keen to do events like this again. We are keen to continue our involvement with Mums Enterprise as we feel that what they are offering mums in terms of information and support for working around family commitments is amazing. We will also be looking at what other events we can get involved in too!
Do you know of or run an event where you would like a pop up sling library? Why not get in touch and see if we can help!
