MBCC (Midlands Baby Carrying Convention) is taking place at the Village Hotel Coventry on the 12th and 13th of October, and we would love to see you there. More information and tickets are available now at http://mbcc.coventryslings.co.uk
What is a Baby Carrying Convention and who is it for?
The idea behind MBCC (Midlands Baby Carrying Convetion) is to get lots of companies who make slings, sell slings, teach people how to carry their babies in slings, sell sling accessories, and other support services for families in one place all at the same time. For you, parents expecting a baby, parents with a baby, or parents with an older child this means you can get the advice you need, you can try on all the different kinds of slings and get personalised advice from trained carrying consultants in the Sling Library Zone (which It’s A Sling Thing will be running). Whether you have never used a sling before, have one but need a change, or are looking into it for a baby that hasn’t arrived in the outside world yet, there will be advice, talks and workshops for you.
You can hire a sling for the day from us for FREE to really try it out and get to grips with it.
If you find a kind of sling you love you will be able to buy them in person on the day at special rates, from many stalls, including us, or pick up a discount code to order them online once you’re home. But that isn’t all…
More than just shopping
These events are so much more than just glorified markets. There will be experts leading workshops on a whole range of topics.
Meet Emily Fackrell, Director of CalmFamily CIC
CalmFamily’s mission is to educate and support parents so that their families can have more harmonious relationships that optimise children’s development and ultimately help them to be more well rounded adults. We want a better future for our society and have the tools to inform parents’ choices for calmer, happier families.
Emily and Alex Kremer will be there on both Friday and Saturday doing talks ranging from Building Babies’ Brains, how babies brains work and how
they learn and develop, and how we as parents can understand and respond to this to help them on the way, Infant Sleep, Introducing Solid Foods and many more. They will be offering talks aimed both at parents and at organisations working to support parents including health
visitors, midwives, doulas, paediatric nurses, antenatal teachers and many, many more. If you work in a parent or child supporting profession, you may be especially interested in the Friday for the CPD (Continual Professional Development) content.
Meet Lorette Michallon of Slingababy
“At Slingababy we believe that people matter, that confidence matters, that connection matters and above all that love matters.”
Lorette has trained almost 500 baby carrying consultants and peer supporters all over the world and is embarking upon the creation of a one day course supporting professionals to learn the skills to help parents to help parents combine feeding and carrying.
At MBCC Lorette will be running workshops for professionals and parents on Feeding in Slings. she will discuss safety, breastfeeding tips, how slings can help you recognise your baby’s feeding cues, how they can help you feel more confident feeding in public and how sling use can promote the hormones that are crucial to establishing milk supply. This was by far the most popular talk at MBCC 2017 and we are excited that she will be there facilitating this workshop as feeding in public, whatever means you are using can be a nervewracking step for many parents and Lorette helps give you the confidence to be comfortable in any situation.
Meet Bob Bets of Derby and Nottingham Sling Library and Little Possums

We have a something to suit every person and every budget, and with numerous babywearing qualifications between us you can feel confident buying from people with experience and expertise of all things slings!
Bob will be doing a talk on Friday on Why Babywearing Matters for Fathers, aimed at explaining to people who support dads, or families postnatally how Dads using slings can make a difference, and on Saturday he is running a hands on session, geared towards men, but open to anyone, to get them using a buckled carrier or Soft Structured Carrier. This is suitable for total beginners. You don’t even have to have had your baby yet!
Meet Rosie Knowles, author GP, and babywearing educator and campaigner
“I am a strong advocate of sling use, not just for convenience, but also for the great advantages babywearing can provide to the whole family, such as improved bonding, reduced reflux or colic, better muscle development and avoidance of plagiocephaly, for example.”
Her book “Why Babywearing Matters” was published by Pinter and Martin in May 2016. And will be available for purchase at MBCC in both English and Polish.
On Saturday she will be doing a workshop on Carrying Newborns.
